World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Upgrades to an item are a way to boost the stats of an item. Depending on the upgrade type, it may raise an item's Mark level or Rarity, as well as boost other stats.
Each item has a track to upgrade it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the following one by a certain amount.
Item Level
The value of an item's base stats increase when it is upgraded. item upgrades is the sum of all its upgraded advantages (attack, magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be expensive, depending on who you hire and what you do. This is due to the number of perks that have to be changed in order to upgrade an item.
The level of an item is a popular measure of power, and is visible on all tooltips for items. It also serves to limit how much PvP gear players can wear as PvP is restricted at lower levels. The average item level can be found on the character sheet.
Utilizing the level of an item will allow players to compare the strength of equipment when deciding to purchase or sell. It's an excellent indicator of an item's quality and how much damage it will be capable of causing. The item level can also be used to evaluate items when looking at the inventory of a seller.
The item level can be viewed by pressing the ALT key on a PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will display the item's full description, including the ilvl. It can also be found by hovering an item with the mouse cursor and typing /itemlevel into chat.
There are a few theories about how the item level calculation is made. One theory says that the item level is calculated by an equation that determines how valuable the stats of an item really are. It takes into account the fact that different perks have different values and sockets have gems that increase the item's overall value. This can result in an item's ilvl calculated, which is typically very close to Blizzards actual item level.
This is not the only thing that affects the ilvl of an item. The degree of the area in which the item was dropped can alter its stats. For example it can increase the item's haste or crit score. This means that items dropped at higher levels will have more ilvl than those from lower-level instances.
Item Stats
The item's stats can make or break an item for players. The game uses them in various ways to encourage players not to limit themselves to a single weapon and to encourage players to explore other weapons. The stat mods of a weapon boost the base stats. These stat mods are then boosted by the player's level.
The upgrades to an item can boost its stats. The costs for upgrades are determined by the rarity of the item. For instance, a gray or white item can only be upgraded once, while an item with the rare tiers will be upgraded several times with higher prices.
Another method of altering the stats of an item is by affixing it. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player and are available in all shapes and sizes. The affixes can be used to provide items with extra damage or other special capabilities (such as revitalizing dead or reducing cooling downs) or to distinguish them by adding a name.
Presently, all affixes are able to be rerolled by selecting them from the upgrade window and pressing the green button, which is accompanied by circling arrows. This process will cost the player a certain amount of gold and other items which can be used to add to the upgrade gauge in the same way as other options for rerolling.
In addition to rerolling affixes, players can select which stats they want to keep on an item after it is upgraded. The range of stats determined by the item's level. However each item will include at least one stat in the range, unless they are an exclusive item, or the item is a God Roll from a boss in a raid.
Another thing that could be changed by adding an option to upgrade the equipment without having to reroll the affixes or choosing which stats to enhance. As with the base equipment, this must be done per item and the interface for item comparison wouldn't display all possible stats at once.
Item Luck
A player's Luck stat stacks up to increase the chances of finding items and the properties that are spawned from loot drops and the strength of those properties. However, it does not directly impact damage or the ability to upgrade items. It merely gives the player a possibility to obtain better equipment earlier in the game, and is therefore more valuable in the initial game run as opposed to later ones, because most players value greater weapon scaling and defense over raw damage gains.
In item upgrade to influencing the discovery of items, Luck also increases the probability of being successful when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This should not be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade chance which increases with each item level and can be further increased by using an anti-material, such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.
Armor, shields and weapons come with the default Luck value of 40. These items can then be enhanced with golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the item's material type) to grant an additional +40 Luck or to boost the existing Luck of the item up to 140.
Moreover, certain items, such as the Hollow weapon, which is infused with Hollow, can be equipped to increase the damage dealt by any damage-dealing skill by 5percent. These items can be found in the shops or made using the right ingredients.
Item Failure
Not all upgrades are successful. Cash shop items can be used to increase the chance of success of an upgrade or to prevent players from losing their item if it is not successful.
When you upgrade an item, the rate of success is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage is the chances of successfully upgrading that item, and can be enhanced by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limits to how much success rates can be increased, and the overall chance of an upgrade failing cannot be greater than 100%..
The luck of an item can also influence the success of an upgrade. All items have an average success rate of 25 percent, and each item with Luck increases the chance of success by five percent.
The upgrade overlays of the item are rendered above items in the inventory. This could cause obscurity to enchantment effects or other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
